He thought that perhaps she was one of the Ladies in Waiting, for her ease of manner was such that she seemed so accessable, so real, unlike many of the hirils that Jareth had met in the course of his duties for the House.

His suprise was evident on his face, when he saw her with her family at a Court revelry. He had known her as Rae, he did not know that she was Hiril Jausserande, one of the triplets that had become muchly discussed among the young Heru's ... all of which seemed to want to marry one or the other of that lovely and lively lot.

When the parents had gone on an expedition of sorts, seeking some magical artifact, Dalamar had been left in charge. The Eldest sister, Kelasharre, had gone ... and two of the Triplets had went after her. Rae had stayed, she had been very ill. Yet when she sought to go after them, Dalamar locked her in a tower, and did terrible things to her.

The soldier in him warred with the man.

For the first time in his career, Jareth did not enjoy his duty, for he was one of the ones hand picked to make sure that Rae did not escape. Her soft despair, the cries when she could not do the magic that Dalamar wanted ... all of these led to him plotting to help her escape.

To this day, he still bore the whip scars on his back, and to him they are proud badges of rank, more so than his Captain's bars ever were.
